Utilities Department
The City of Bowling
Green Department of Public Utilities (Municipal Utilities) is
responsible for the management and operation of the city-owned electric
distribution, water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment
(Water Pollution Control), and wastewater collection systems. The
department is governed by a five-member Board of Public Utilities,
appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council of the City of
Bowling Green. Board Members are selected from various wards of the
city and each member will serve for five-years, subject to
reappointment. This governing board meets in the City
Administrative Services Building on the second and fourth Monday of
each month at 6:30 P.M. in the Bowling Green City Council Chamber,
304 N. Church Street. All meetings are open to the public. This
facility meets ADA requirements.
The general operations and management of the Utilities Department are the responsibility of the Utilities Director. The Director is appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the Board of Public Utilities. The current Utilities Director is Brian O'Connell.
The responsibilities of the office staff include preparing bid documents and contracts; preparation and securing legal documents; monitoring revenues and expenditures; overseeing all utility divisions, and working as a liaison between all utility divisions and city administration. The Utilities Director also represents the City of Bowling Green on various regulating Boards including, the Board of Trustees of American Municipal Power-Ohio, Inc., the American Public Power Association Membership Committee, and on various sub-committees of American Municipal Power-Ohio, Inc.
