City Stands Ready for Snow

Citizens Reminded to Shovel Walks

BOWLING GREEN—With the potential for snowfall in the next twenty-four hours, the City is reminding citizens of the criteria for snow streets and requirements for shoveling sidewalks.

At the accumulation of two-inches or more of snow, the City automatically adopts the designation of “snow emergency.”  While the Safety Director, John Fawcett, will issue a formal announcement of the emergency, citizens are reminded that cars must be moved from designated snow streets during a snow emergency.

“Snow Streets” are designated throughout the City.  Designated snow streets are marked with blue and white signs.  Any vehicle parked on a snow street must be removed within two hours after the accumulation of two-inches of snow.  For a complete listing of snow streets, visit the City’s web site at www.bgohio.org

Fawcett suggests that, when possible, citizens remove their vehicles from the streets before the predicted storm.  This will allow plows to clear the streets more effectively.

“Even if you don’t live on a snow street, it is very helpful to remove vehicles from the street whenever possible,” Fawcett said.

All property owners are required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their premises within twenty-four hours after the abatement of any storm during which such snow and ice have accumulated.  Failure to clear walks may result in a citation and/or the city clearing the walk, with the charge billed to the property owner.

Public Works crews are readying their equipment in case the snow predictions do occur.  Crews will be on the road as soon as conditions warrant clearing.
