Law Requires Animal Owners to Clean Up
BOWLING GREEN—Citizens are reminded that City regulations require animal owners to clean up after their pets.
Section 90.04, regarding “Defecation on Public or Private Property,” of the City’s Codified Ordinances states the following:
(A) No owner, keeper, or harborer of any dog, cat, or other animal shall knowingly permit the animal to defecate on the property, either public or private, of another without the owner, keeper, or harborer having in his or her possession the necessary tools or equipment to remove the defecation.
(B) The owner, keeper, or harborer shall use the necessary tools and equipment to remove defecation from the property.
“With the approach of spring, we anticipate more people being outside in our community with pets,” Municipal Administrator John Fawcett said. “For everyone’s benefit, we are reminding citizens to clean up after animals in our parks, neighborhoods, and in our downtown. This is a sanitation and quality of life issue.”
Violation of Section 90.04 can result in citation. This is a minor misdemeanor under BG laws.
